The History of N.Peal and James Bond

Both N.Peal and James Bond are known for their quintessential British heritage and style, which is why our luxury cashmere became the only choice for 007 in the 2012 film Skyfall. Our worlds have been intertwined ever since.

It was a magical moment in N.Peal’s Burlington Arcade store, when the luxuriously crafted Oxford Roundneck Cashmere Jumper caught the eye of the style team working on set of the award-winning film. From the sumptuously soft 100% Mongolian cashmere fabric and the classic cut to the striking Blue Wave colour; there was something special about this piece that made it the perfect on-screen ensemble for the world’s most famous spy.

The sweater’s distinctive blue hue, chosen by the N.Peal design team, had been inspired by the Scottish Highlands and by complete coincidence, the piece was featured in the Skyfall scenes that were set in Scotland. As it turned out, twenty-five versions of the same sweater were needed. Skyfall’s style team had been searching for a garment that complimented the actors’ eyes meaning that by sheer chance, N.Peal had created the perfect piece.

It was also the beginning of a shared history between the character James Bond, and cashmere specialists N.Peal. The character James Bond, which was created by Ian Fleming in 1952 has become a much-loved symbol of sophistication and style through his on-screen portrayals over the last 50 years.

Sharing a long-standing iconic status in British culture and history, both the character James Bond and N.Peal appreciate the finer things in life. Whether it’s a beautiful crafted piece of clothing or a sleek Aston Martin, style and sophistication are communicated by even the smallest of details.

The appearance of N.Peal’s iconic cashmere in Skyfall came as a pleasant surprise to Adam Holdsworth, N.Peal’s Managing Director when he attended the premier in Leicester Square. The N.Peal brand has been no stranger to the silver screen since its beginnings in London’s Burlington Arcade in 1936. Our cashmere has captured the attention of iconic Hollywood stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Cary Grant and Elizabeth Taylor as well as, more recently, Kate Middleton.

By the time Spectre was released in 2015, N.Peal had become synonymous with classic off-duty style of 007. The Cable Turtle Neck Cashmere Jumper and Fine Gauge Mock Turtle Neck Sweater were each inspired by Bond, and this time, each garment was specially designed to be worn on-screen in the film. You can even own these pieces for yourself for effortless James Bond style. Each sweater strikes the perfect balance between timeless elegance and suave British sophistication, with classic designs that suit every man.

With such a mutual respect for all things stylish, what is next for these two iconic British heavyweights? Only time will tell...
