Enjoy Your Annual Leave With a Luxury UK Staycation

Throughout the pandemic, we had no choice but to holiday within the UK. But as travel returns to normal, it seems as though the population of the UK are still choosing to opt for a staycation rather than going abroad. In fact, in a survey conducted among British consumers showcased that in the past year 65% of participants enjoyed a holiday on home turf

But why are so many people ditching long haul flights for something closer to home? Well, it could be for many reasons. The way people view travel and holiday has shifted significantly. More people are opting to travel more sustainably, which means cutting down on flights in order to reduce their carbon footprint, while others just want a cheaper, easier option, especially when travelling with kids in tow.

At N.Peal, we’ve done some research and gathered together some staycation ideas to help you find the best staycation in the UK to meet your travel needs.

Best Nature Destinations In The UK

The UK can often be overlooked when it comes to lush greenery, wildlife and walking spots. However, there are actually some amazing spots throughout the country to climb mountains, soak in the views, get some fresh air and enjoy a luxury holiday in the UK. We have left some of our favourites down below.

The Lake District

The Lake District is National Park in Cumbria that’s home to some of the most beautiful lakes, mountains and views in the UK. There is so much to see and do, it’s definitely worth spending a week exploring everything it has to offer. If you’re interested in hiking, The Lake District boasts the highest mountain in the UK, Scafell Pike. But be careful, when you reach the summit, the views are so spectacular you might not want to come back down. The Lake District is also home to quaint towns and villages, such as Windermere and Keswick, where you can enjoy walking, cafes and restaurants, or enjoy water activities in one of the many lakes.

The Lake District can sometimes get chilly. We recommend having a pair of cosy cashmere gloves and a scarf on hand for when you need to layer up.

The Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is located in a huge area (almost 800 square miles) and is situated through five counties - Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Wiltshire and Worcestershire. There are plenty of activities to enjoy, whether you're travelling as a family, with friends or as a couple. Why not enjoy a guided walking tour through the Cotswold Way? Or if wildlife is more your thing, Birdland Park and Gardens is home to the biggest selection of exotic birds in the UK. We understand that after all that nature sometimes you just need somewhere to relax. So good news. The Cotswolds is also home to Calcot Spa, where you can just get away from the trials and tribulations of everyday life, enjoy a treatment and fully relax.

Isle of Skye

It wouldn’t be a guide to the best staycation destinations in the UK without a mention of bonny wee Scotland. The Isle of Skye is located on the west coast of Scotland and is 50 miles long. Renowned for its scenery and landscapes, it’s the perfect destination for those wanting to experience the best that nature has to offer. You can take a boat trip to watch dolphins, otters and whales, while other experiences provide more hands-on water sports like kayaking, paddle boarding and highland adventures. There are also plenty of cafes and restaurants offering some of the freshest seafood around, alongside a delicious glass of wine to wash it down with after a long day of sightseeing.

Staying warm in Scotland is essential. Why not try layering a cashmere hoodie from N.Peal under a coat or jacket to stay extra snug while you explore?

Best Destinations For Beaches

You don’t have to travel abroad to find golden sandy beaches. In fact, in the UK, we’re blessed with beautiful coastlines from the highlands of Scotland to the white cliffs of Dover. We’ve included our top 3 beach destinations for you to consider for your next UK staycation.

Cornwall

Cornwall is the UK’s worst kept secret. Filled with quaint villages, hidden coves, sandy beaches and delicious pasties, it’s the perfect place to spend the British summer time. Enjoy the crystal clear waters in St.Ives and  catch some waves surfing at Porthtowan beach, or if you’re looking for something a bit more tropical, Kynance Cove will have you feeling like you’ve been on a 10 hour flight to a different climate. There are also lots of great places to stay, from glamping spots to luxury hotels. The perfect destination for stunning views, warm temperatures and crystal clear waters.

Easy to get to by car, you can visit Bamburgh, which is not only home to one of the best beaches in the UK, but also has a huge castle surrounded by a quaint village that makes the perfect destination for a weekend getaway. Or if you’re travelling with the whole family, Seahouses is an excellent spot for arcade games and fish and chips. It also has caravan parks, restaurants and pubs, so you can definitely make a week of it if you’re planning on visiting during the summer months.
